CBS Breaks Ground at Dakota Electric Association

Cooperative Building Solutions (CBS) has partnered with Dakota Electric Association (DEA) on the design and construction of their new headquarters facility in Lakeville, Minnesota.

On June 26, 2025, CBS team members joined DEA at the official Groundbreaking Ceremony – marking the commencement of the development construction. The project will include improved accommodations for DEA members and personnel, allowing the cooperative to better serve its internal team as well as its rapidly growing community. The new campus will consist of a 77,000 square foot two-story office building, 35,000 square foot material warehouse, 74,000 square foot enclosed vehicle storage building, and an 8,800 square foot vehicle maintenance building with a vehicle wash bay.

"The vision of this facility is not just to be another building, but to actually be an energy center," DEA CEO Ryan Hentges explained. "This is a facility that will be able to meet the operational needs of delivering safe, reliable and affordable power for our members while also being a place where we can have conversations about our energy future. This will be a place where all our members, communities and employees can think, discuss and develop plans necessary to meet our future energy needs for generations to come."

CBS is honored to help realize DEA’s ambitious vision for their new campus. As the largest project in the CBS’s history, the development is expected to be completed within 8 to 12 months.
